Mini Biography :
>> Beautiful brunette who's had a roller-coaster career. She
made her feature debut as a beauty contest entrant in Lady Godiva
Rides Again (1951) and appeared in a handful of other British films
before gaining international attention as the femme fatale in Howard
Hawks' sprawling epic of ancient Egypt, Land of the Pharaohs (1955).
Brought to Hollywood with great fan fare, Collins established herself
in The Virgin Queen (1955), The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (1955,
as notorious showgirl Evelyn Nesbit), The Opposite Sex (1956, in the
role played by Joan Crawford in the original, The Women), The Bravados
(1958), Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys! (1958, trying to seduce Paul
Newman), Seven Thieves, Esther and the King (both 1960), and The Road
to Hong Kong (1962). Collins worked infrequently during her 1963-71
marriage to songwriter/performer Anthony Newley, although she starred
opposite him in his notorious sex comedy Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever
Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness? (1969). When she returned
to films fulltime, it was in shoddy thrillers and horrorsci-fi fare,
including Inn of the Frightened People (1971), Tales From the Crypt
(1972), Tales That Witness Madness (1973), and Empire of the Ants
(1977), as well as The Big Sleep (1978). She also appeared on episodic
TV, including a memorable "Star Trek" episode, "City on the Edge of
Forever." By the late 1970s she was starring in tawdry sexploitation
films like The Stud (1978) and The Bitch (1979), both based on novels
written by her sister Jackie. Then she landed the role of super-bitch
Alexis Carrington in the prime-time TV soap "Dynasty" (1981-89) and
soared to the top of the show-biz heap, achieving greater worldwide
fame and recognition than she'd ever enjoyed before. She even posed
for a nude layout in "Playboy" magazine. (She also made one forgettable
film, Homework in 1982.) Since then she's appeared in (and produced)
TV movies and miniseries, acted on stage, and written several steamy
novels (like her successful sister). Her kiss-and-tell autobiography
"Past Imperfect" was published in 1978 and updated in 1984.
